A dream of mine has always been to collaborate with people who care about the same issues that I do, and create something lasting that shares our common message. Well, this dream is coming true on October 7th. It’s the day our new compilation album Listen to the Red Rock will be released, in support of America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act, currently in Congress.

It has been a joy and hard work to bring this project of music and love for America’s Red Rock Wilderness to fruition. Let me tell you a little about the artists who collaborated with me on this album. For a free gift and download of my single, Dancing with the Beauty, visit my homepage at https://www.gigilove.com

Award-winning musician Cosy Sheridan who won the “New Folk” award at Kerrville Folk Festival and “Troubadour” award at Telluride in Colorado offers her song 18 Holes on the Open Range. Tyler Grant, National Flatpicking Champion has contributed his song Desert Flatpicking with featured guest Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon on Banjo. Kate MacLeod, awarded “Best of the West” by Far-West Folk Alliance, shares her intimate song Red Rock. Marv Hamilton brings Hayduke, a controversial song about civil disobedience and questions how can we protect our mother. Meander Cat, Jasper Groff with lyricist Lenore McDonough writes and sings Meander Canyon, about a playful time on the river with a lover and some desert birds, floating through orange canyons. Anke Summerhill, a favorite songwriting instructor at Moab Folk Camp this year 2022 shares her beautiful song Stars at Noon, which was also featured on the SUWA compilation Slickrock & Sagebrush. Another artist who was on Slickrock & Sagebrush, Walking Jim Stoltz, sings Down in the Blue, and although he has since passed his fighting spirit for wilderness lives on with this compilation. Dancing with the Beauty is a very special song I wrote specifically for this project and we created a feast for the eyes in the music video, filmed in the Bluff and Cedar Mesa Region.
Pixie and the Partygrass Boys are up and coming rising bluegrass stars from Utah. Their mandolin player Benn Weiss composed The Long Hard Way and the band takes it up several notches. Our beloved Utah Maka Mama, Leraine Horstmanshoff blesses us with her Desert Song, one of the last she wrote before her passing in December of 2021. Our album is dedicated to Leraine because of her abounding love for the desert and her Utah community.

America’s Red Rock Wilderness is not just a place in Utah, it is a potent treasure of ecological biodiversity in the United States of America, just like the Grand Canyon, Teton, Yellowstone or Denali. This 8 million acres of red rock wilderness is even more important than a national park because it is a wildlife corridor to the north for millions of migratory elk, deer, wolf, and other animals. By keeping it untouched it helps to mitigate climate change and promises to hold millions of carbons in the ground. It is a pristine and virgin region that needs wilderness designation now or it will be exploited, drilled and fracked by the fossil fuel industry who see only the dollars to be made at the cost of millions of acres of lost and damaged habitat.

By supporting America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act, and asking your representatives in Congress to sponsor and pass this bill, we will save the song of the canyon wren and the red rock wilderness forever. Please reach out to your Senators and Representatives today by texting ARRWA to 52886 and filing out the form to add your voice to the list of growing supporters of this bill.
You can also help support this cause by purchasing our new album Listen to the Red Rock on Amazon Music, iTunes, Bandcamp, and Gigilove.com (All proceeds will go to SUWA and other environmental groups who are advocating for the protection and passage of America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act).

I am excited to share this project with you all and I know it will resonate with so many of you!  Thanks for your support.

Love,

Gigi and Vast Horizons Music Inc.
